If you’re interested in obtaining a Florida medical marijuana card, the following steps will guide you through the process. Please review the following info and feel free to contact us if there’s anything we can help with.
Qualifying for the Program
In order to participate in Florida’s medical marijuana program, you must be a Florida resident and have a qualifying medical condition. Patients diagnosed with any of the following conditions are eligible to participate:
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
- Crohn’s disease
- Parkinson’s disease
- Multiple sclerosis (MS)
- Medical conditions of the same kind or class as or comparable to those above
- A terminal condition diagnosed by a physician other than the qualified physician issuing the physician certification
- Chronic nonmalignant pain caused by a qualifying medical condition or that originates from a qualifying medical condition and persists beyond the usual course of that qualifying medical condition.
If you believe you’re eligible for medical marijuana in Florida, the next step is to obtain a medical marijuana certification from a participating physician. If your doctor hasn’t registered with the program yet, they may learn how to sign up by visiting this page. If you’re having trouble finding a participating physician, a list of approved practitioners is available here.
In order to issue your medical marijuana certification, the physician must perform a full examination and determine that you have a qualifying medical condition. If the physician concludes that medical marijuana treatment is likely to have more benefits than risks for your health situation, they may issue your patient certification through the Medical Marijuana Use Registry. At this time, the physician will indicate the product type and quantity of medical marijuana you’ll be authorized to obtain. You’ll need to provide your email to the physician so that you can create your patient account and receive important updates from the registry. If you plan to have a caregiver, your physician will need to include their email address as well.
Once your physician certification has been submitted, you’ll need to complete your patient application. You’ll receive an email from the registry at the email address you provided your physician, which will allow you to start your online application. You’ll need to provide basic information, proof of permanent or temporary Florida residency, and make payment of the $75 processing fee. If you prefer to send your application by mail, you may print out the Patient and Caregiver application forms. Be sure your application is accurate and complete before submission to prevent delays in your approval.
